Section: Vol.II: the Noble FamiliesRomanov [Romanoff] FamilyArtist: Michael Medvedev, GHA[R]The family arms of the premier family of Russia, as established in 1850-ies by Alexander II the Liberator. Unlike the Imperial arms as such, these family arms were not a subject of the dynastic law and all the legitimate posterity of the Emperors are entitled to them. Here the arms are shown in the abbreviated form (without the Holsatian quarterings); the shield is ensigned with a princely cap to denote both the Sovereign origin of the lineage and the princely title of the armiger. This particular graphic version was commissioned by HSH Prince Michael Romanoff-Ilyinski (of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA), and used on his stationery, printed by the Rise Corporation of St. Petersburg.
