Imperial Orders of Chivalry

The rubric is still under construction. So far we recommend everybody to wait for the "BURKEíS ORDERS OF CHIVALRY AND OF MERIT" which is just published (the projectís General Editor is Guy Stair Sainty), and to find and read an excellent book by a researcher from Finland, Dr. Ulla Tillander-Godenhielm: "The Russian Imperial Awards System During the Reign of Nicholas II. 1894-1917", Helsinki, 2005.

The Order was founded by Tsar (later Emperor) Peter I under the name of the Order of Liberation (Orden Svobozhdeniya), under the patronage of St. Catherine of Alexandria, and specially for his spouse, Tsarina Catherine (later Empress, and after his death the Sovereign as Catherine I).
