Section: PAPERSBoris YELTSIN. In memoriamAuthor: The.Heraldry.Ru / Publication date: 2007-04-24
Apart of creating the new Russian state with a Constitution based on truly human values, he provided it with appropriate symbols. A number of versions of the State eagle being suggested, it was his personal decision to approve the combination of the outline of the Russian Imperial eagle with the pre-Petrine colours combination, thus establishing an appropriately old/new symbol. He restored the State heraldry office and proclaimed the "integral heraldic policy" in Russia, which made possible the continuation of the historical Russian Law of Arms. Among his circumheraldic merits, it was his decree which corrected the proportions of the Russian national flag according to the traditional pre-Revolutionary pattern (1:2 to 2:3). When persuaded by the leftists to approve the so-called "symbol of the banner of the victory", he personally excluded the hammer-and-sickle emblem from the draft. The system of the provincial and civic heraldry in Russia is still a mirror of the "Yeltsinist" Constitution. R.I.P. |
