Under his guidance the Order not only established the diplomatic relations with the new Russia (and, by the way, with other 50 nations), but also made several important steps to reestablish effective contact with the Russian society. All the future achievements, be it in the sphere of charity or in the sphere of historical and legal research, will be rooted in Grand Master Andrew Bertie's cautious and respectful “Russian policy”. His Most Eminent Highness Fra Andrew Willoughby Ninian Bertie, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, died in Rome at 78 on 7th of February.
